Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about colonoscopies at Colonoscopy KC.

What is a colonoscopy?

A colonoscopy is a procedure where Dr. Earl examines your entire large intestine using a colonoscope — a flexible fiber optic scope equipped with a camera and light. It can detect early signs of cancer, inflamed tissue, ulcers, bleeding, and polyps (which can be removed during the procedure).

How much does a colonoscopy cost at Colonoscopy KC?

Our all-inclusive cash price is $1,275. This covers everything: consultation (with doctor referral), the colonoscopy procedure (including polyp removal and biopsies), anesthesia, pathology/lab fees, and surgery center fees. There are no hidden charges — period.

Do I need insurance?

No. Our cash-pay model is designed for uninsured, self-pay, and high-deductible patients. While we welcome insured patients, our flat-rate pricing eliminates the surprise bills that often come with insurance-based colonoscopies.

How soon can I schedule my procedure?

In as little as two weeks — unlike other facilities where you might wait months for an appointment. Call (913) 379-3350 for current availability.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Yes, a doctor's referral is included in the $1,275 price. During your free phone consultation, Dr. Earl will discuss your symptoms and determine whether a colonoscopy is appropriate. If so, the referral is handled as part of the process.

At what age should I get a colonoscopy?

The American Cancer Society recommends all adults begin colorectal cancer screening at age 45. However, if you have a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps, or are experiencing symptoms like rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habits, or unexplained abdominal pain, you may need to be screened earlier. Dr. Earl can help determine the right time for you.

Is a colonoscopy painful?

No. You will receive sedation administered by a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) who will monitor you throughout the procedure. Most patients are completely asleep and feel nothing. You will not remember the procedure.

What is the difference between a screening and diagnostic colonoscopy?

A screening colonoscopy is performed on patients with no symptoms to check for colorectal cancer. A diagnostic colonoscopy is performed when a patient has symptoms (bleeding, pain, changes in bowel habits) or has had abnormal findings on other tests. Our $1,275 price covers both types.

How long does the procedure take?

The colonoscopy itself typically takes 15-30 minutes. Plan to be at the facility for approximately 2-3 hours total, including check-in, prep, the procedure, and recovery from sedation.

Can I drive myself home after the procedure?

No. You must have someone drive you home. The sedation affects your judgment and reaction time for 24 hours. You cannot drive, take public transportation alone, or use a rideshare without an accompanying adult.

What is an EGD (upper endoscopy)?

An EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) examines your esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of your small intestine. It's used to diagnose heartburn/GERD, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, ulcers, and causes of anemia. We offer EGD for $1,275 or combined with a colonoscopy for $2,175 (saving $375).

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We participate with CareCredit, which offers flexible payment plans including interest-free options. Ask about financing during your free consultation.

What if polyps are found and removed?

Polyp removal (polypectomy) and biopsy are included in our all-inclusive $1,275 price. Unlike insurance-based procedures where removing a polyp can trigger additional charges, our flat rate covers it all.

How do I prepare for a colonoscopy?

You will follow a clear liquid diet the day before and drink a bowel prep solution to clean out your colon. Detailed instructions are provided at your consultation. See our Prep Instructions page for more information.

Where is Colonoscopy KC located?
